President Donald Trump took his first major steps toward making good on a campaign pledge to crack down on illegal immigration into the United States with the signing of two executive orders Wednesday (Jan. 25). They highlight the edition of the Trump Tracker.

One order seeks to put in motion a timeline for the construction of a wall on the Mexican border, a project with price tag estimates that have ranged between $8 billion and $25 billion. Trump told ABC News construction would begin "in months" and that Mexico would reimburse U.S. taxpayers "in a form, perhaps a complicated form." Any such arrangement would need initially need approval from Congress, which would have to authorize the money needed to start work.
