Louisiana tax refunds won't be delayed with budget crisis, official says

Louisiana residents expecting a tax refund from the state this spring should not be worried about having the money seized or delayed to deal with the state's budget crisis, a top state official said Wednesday (Feb.17).

"We're not holding refunds," Department of Revenue Secretary Kimberly Robinson said.

Some residents had worried that the state, looking to fill a $940 million hole in the current budget and more than $2 billion for the cycle that begins July 1, would hang on to the cash in an effort to balance the books.

Robinson said that will not happen.
