Louisiana has the highest sales tax rate in America

Sorry, Louisiana shoppers. You have the distinction of paying the highest average sales tax in America.

A new report from the Tax Foundation finds Louisiana's average combined state and local sales tax rate was 9.98 percent in 2017. That is the highest average rate out of all 45 states that have a sales tax.
