The Jefferson Economic Development Commission is taking applications for the first Jefferson Parish-specific entrepreneurship contest, held in conjunction with Cordina New Orleans Cocktails, a recent startup success story that makes its freezable pouches of margaritas, pina coladas and daiquiris in Elmwood. The application deadline is Feb. 19. Finalists will appear before judges and an audience at a business pitch contest at Drago's Seafood Restaurant in Fat City on March 19.

Called the Cordina Challenge, the contest is designed for business owners who live and work in Jefferson and employ between one and 10 people. In announcing the event, JEDCO said the goal is to connect upstarts with business leaders. The winning company will receive capital investments and pro bono business services. JEDCO is in the process of accepting donations for the prizes.
