The August flood destroyed Andy Deshazer’s Denham Springs home and his vehicles.
“It was a total loss,” Deshazer said. “I’m 6 foot 6 inches, and the water was at the top of my head.” To make matters worse, Deshazer had no flood insurance on his home, just off Rushing Road.
Deshazer and his family managed to settle into a recreational vehicle and started replacing the items they lost. When it came time for him to file his 2016 income taxes, he went to his tax preparer and found a sliver of tax relief.
