BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana lawmakers' failure in the special session to help close a budget gap only four months away raised alarms Wednesday with a national credit rating agency.

S&P Global Ratings offered an update about the end of the 15-day session and continued uncertainty about Louisiana's finances.

"In our view, political risk — as evidenced by the legislative gridlock during the special session — has emerged as a credit weakness, which has the potential to stunt what otherwise has been recent positive momentum in the state," the agency wrote.
