Bernie Sanders said that as president he would raise taxes on the middle class.
NBC News host Savannah Guthrie began the second round of the first 2020 Democratic primary debate on Thursday with a question directed at Sanders. Guthrie asked the Vermont socialist if he would raise taxes on the middle class and, if so, how he planned to sell that message to voters.
Sanders avoided answering the question at first, laying out his "new message for America" on healthcare, education, and higher taxes on "Wall Street." Guthrie interjected and gave him 10 seconds to answer the question, yes or no.
